Chippewas of Nawash Health Center Contingency Plan 2020 (COVID-19 Virus)

GOAL: The goal of this plan is to enable Health to maximize support to community by retaining core capacity of essential services within Health during COVID-19 Pandemic.

Internal office operations

  • Staffing - All core services will be operating; Health Supervisor; Community Health Nurse; Home and Community Care Nurse; Home and community Care Supervisor; NHIB Clerk – Medical Transportation. Rotate staff when we require additional assistance, when available.
    Health will continue to assist with Client urgent care; COVID-19 assessment; home visits

Communication

  • The phone system has been set to transfer calls directly to core staff phones and cell numbers have been sent out to the community. Health has two staff on the Emergency Planning committee. Health will also send out on their web page updates as we receive them from health agencies. As well as provide communication to community programs.

Risk Mitigation Strategies

Information will be sent out to community. Social isolation; increase access to hand washing stations; Delivered packages to seniors instead of buffet style meals

  • Good Food Box
    • Health will continue to support the Good Food box in cooperation with the Food Bank.
  • Home and Community care
    • HCC will assist with volunteers who wish to supply the elderly with lunch or dinner.
  • We receive updates from
    • Ministry of Health, SWLINS and Health Canada provide crucial information on the diagnosis of cases and national policies and support structures
    • We will provide designated background information on cases in the community when required.
    • Information will be share with Council, once a confirmed case has been identified.
    • Health will continue provide information to the community on safety measures.

External Health Services Operations

  • Health will continue to provide community members with transportation to medical appointments. Travel as usual in accordance with the urgency of the situation and the medical condition of the client. Medical transportation drivers have been briefed on the COVID-19 virus and have protocols to follow when transporting clients.
  • CHN/HCCN will continue to have contact with health professionals in the area regarding the COVID-19 virus. They will also continue to do home visits with the elderly and shut ins.

Supplies

  • Many of our supplies are on back order; Hand sanitizer; masks; gowns, we have sufficient supplies in-house for our workers. We will stockpile as much as we can and distribute when required once back-orders come in.

Hours of Operation: 12:00 PM – 8:00 PM, 7 days per week

⦁ If you do not have symptoms of COVID-19, please do not come to the Assessment Centre.
⦁ If you have mild symptoms and can manage at home, please stay home and self-isolate. Do not come the Assessment Center. Information on self-isolation , as well as guidance for care givers and family members in the home is available at https://www.ontario.ca/coronavirus.
⦁ If you have symptoms and are struggling at home, go to an Assessment Centre.
⦁ If you are very ill, go to the nearest Emergency Department or call 911.
