The ministry of culture, Tourism and Sport would provide financial support to isolated communities based on demonstrated interest and commitment to partner in process to help fund a local recreation position called Activator.
The purpose of the Community Recreation Activator Program is to enhance the quality of life for isolated communities through the provision of quality community-based recreation, sport and physical activity programs. Activators are employed to facilitate the delivery of programs and to enhance the capacity of the community to meet its recreation needs utilizing local resources and in partnership with other community-based organizations that provide health and social programs, services and facilities.
Ministry of Health Promotion Program Objectives
To increase participation opportunities by supporting communities to provide sport, recreation and physical activity programs suitable to the needs and interests of all;
To ensure community direction, support and partnerships through the development of a community based steering committee;
To recruit, support and retain the Activator through the provision of resources, community support, ongoing supervision and training support;
To increase the number of volunteers that assist with the management and coordination of community sport, recreation and physical activity programs and services;
To increase community capacity by providing skill development and leadership development opportunities to members of the community.
Roles and Responsibilities of Activator
Planning community-based recreation programs based on community’s needs and interests;
Enhancing the presence of programming;
Enhancing volunteer capacity;
Assisting groups in planning own program;
Identifying financial and human resources with local leadership;
Developing partnerships with other community organizations;
Preparing grant proposals and recreation budgets
